Happy Friday! I hope everyone is out enjoying this beautiful weather. We finished the week with a successful Flex Friday. In math, we are continuing our study of fractions. So far, we have discussed fractions of an area, a set, and of a length. We have learned how to find the numerator and the denominator and have been practicing pronouncing different fractions. Next week, we will begin comparing and ordering fractions. Meanwhile in science, we started planning the bridges that we will be creating next week after our exciting bridge tour yesterday. Ask me what the different kinds of bridges are! In social studies, we have been researching India and are creating informative pamphlets for our classroom library with the information that we recorded. Enjoy the weekend and this sunny spring weather! Updates/reminders: - Book exchange on Monday in the Learning Commons - Volunteer appreciation assembly May 4th - Weaselhead field trip May 15th ...

Hello everyone, A peek inside our classroom so far this week... We have been busy studying the structure of stories and testing out various building designs. We are excited for our field trip tomorrow to further our learning! Don't forget to come prepared tomorrow morning. We will be doing a lot of walking tomorrow so proper shoes, a large lunch, and plenty of water are a must. Our route is as follows: We will be dropped off at "old Firehall #6 downtown and walk on the North side of the river, stopping at the bridges along the way.  We will cross at the Peace Bridge and then go into Prince's Island Park for a snack break.   From there, we'll stay on the south side of the river until we get to St. Patrick's Island.  We will cross there and have lunch in St. Patrick's Island.  We will take some time to reflect and share our learnings before hopping back on the bus at 1:00 from the East Village.   Stay tuned for the re...

Monday

Hello everyone, Happy Monday! Just a quick reminder about our bridge tour field trip on Thursday. I am still missing some permission forms and we are in need of more volunteers to disperse between the 4 classes that are going. If permission slips are not brought back, students will not be able to attend. If you have an updated police clearance and are available to volunteer, please let me know and I will mark you down as a volunteer. Thank you!

In science, we have been testing different shapes and materials to see how effective they are in building tasks. We also went "shopping" using store flyers and practiced picking out food to go in the different food groups. We were sure to track our spending! Today, we had a special assembly through which we learned about friendship in the form of a magic show. Ask me what FRIENDS stands for! Happy Friday! We began our morning today with a student meeting in the gym to discuss a new school initiative called "Open Entry". The intent behind this initiative is to help students prepare their mind and body for the day of learning ahead. Starting on Monday, every morning our doors will open at 7:45am.  Students are not required to be here at this time, but by doing this, we are allowing students to enter when they arrive at school rather than waiting outside.  Students will trickle in as they arrive for the day.  They can go through the main door, the door closest to the Drop and Go by the kindergarten classrooms, or the doors right off Evanston View, near the CSSI rooms (currently where grade 2 students enter). Students will come in to the class and drop off their coats/shoes and put on their indoor shoes. They then have the choice to participate in an activity of their choice until the bell rings to signal the beginning of classes at 8:00am. We know this is...

Happy Wednesday! A few new updates: Tomorrow our school will be participating in Jersey Day in support of the Humbolt players, families, and communities. If you have a hockey jersey that you would like to wear, please do. Next week on April 16th, we will be going on a Water Walk as it connects to our exploration of the importance of water in our world. We are planning to leave the school at 12:45pm and return for approximately 2:00pm.  Students are encouraged to wear appropriate footwear and bring an extra snack for our 5km walk.  Please check out our route through the community on the map below. We are in need of a few volunteers! Please contact me if you are able to join us. In math this week, we have been using our knowledge of multiplication and division to create our own games. We are excited to display these for conferences next week! Our next focus will be fractions. In social studies, we have been busy using our research on Tunisia to write expository parag...
