Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone is having a good week so far. A peek inside of our classroom so far this week: Earlier this week, we completed our floral landscape artwork and wrote artist statements to go with our masterpieces. We are pleased with how they turned out! In language arts, we having been discussing how to write an effective story beginning. Ask me to explain how this can be done! In math, we finished up patterns and have started geometry. So far we have discussed 2D shapes and how they can be classified. Ask me to explain how we can tell shapes apart and how they can be sorted (hint: what is a polygon? What are the three different types of angles?) In science, we completed our research on the different classifications of animals including insects, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and fish.  We also created our own wild selves! Tomorrow, we will use our creations and our knowledge of how animals are classified to classify the animals ...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone has been enjoying this beautiful weather. We finished the week with a wonderful assembly put on by the grade 1's followed by fun lunch (which is always a hit). Next week, we will be finishing up patterning in math and moving on to geometry. To help keep all of the skills that we have been learning this year current, I highly suggest consistent practice on IXL or Prodigy. Regular review is key to retention! Updates/reminders: - Bike to School Day June 5 - Great Book Exchange June 8 - Swimming June 11-19 Enjoy the weekend!

Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend. We started off our week by continuing our study of patterns. We have been learning about different types of patterns including patterns with shapes and numbers that are either increasing or decreasing. Ask me what an attribute is and how to write a proper pattern rule. In science, we are continuing our research on different types of vertebrates and invertebrates. So far, we have researched fish, mammals, and birds. Ask me to explain a few of the characteristics that separate these animals from one another (hint: think about their different body coverings, the ways that they breathe, the number of legs that they have, where they live, and so on). In social studies, we have been researching Peru and reviewing quality of life. Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at goods and services. In language arts, we have been practicing writing our own main events. We learned that the main event is not a whole story but it ...

Happy Wednesday! Take a peek inside of our classroom so far this week... We had a great trip to Weaselhead park, the weather was beautiful and we learned a lot! Did you know that some trees have a form of sunscreen?? We were amazed by the new information that we discovered. Back in the classroom today, we spent some time researching different mammals and learned what makes a mammal a mammal. Ask me to explain this in detail! We will be learning about other classifications of animals over the next little while as we delve into our unit of study on animal life cycles. In math, we started reviewing patterns this week. Most of us are fairly comfortable with this concept but we are learning some new terminology. Ask me to explain what an attribute is. Meanwhile in language arts, we have been practicing how to write an elaborated main event. There are 5 key things that are included in an elaborated main event. Ask me what these are! ...
