Happy Tuesday!

A little bit of our week so far...

In math, we have continued learning about different multiplication strategies including equal groups, repeated addition, and skip counting. Today we introduced arrays. During our literacy block, we have been practicing writing with transition words through procedural writing. Transition words are meant to help our writing flow. Some examples of transition words are the words "first" "afterwards" and "suddenly". In science, we are wrapping up our unit on hearing and sound. Next week, we will be making instruments! If possible, please send your child to school with recycled materials that we could use to make our instruments.

Desired materials include:
- small cardboard boxes - cereal, shoe, or tissue box size
- empty tin cans
- empty milk jugs or other bottles/cups
- toilet paper, wrapping paper, or paper towel rolls
- string

Mystery message! Work with your child to try to solve the mystery message below. I have encouraged the students to report back to me with the message! Ask your child to show you a strategy that they have learned to solve the equation. This is good practice and a good reminder of positive character traits to go along with the theme of growth mindset in our classroom (message hint!).

Updates and Reminders:
- Next week is a short week! No school Thursday or Friday (February 15th and 16th)
- Our class will be going on a field trip on February 27th to St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Museum - more information about this will be available soon! We are asking for two parent volunteers to accompany us.
