Happy Wednesday!

A peek inside our classroom so far this week...




In math, we finished up reviewing the subtraction strategies that we have learned and will be shifting our focus to multiplication (all the while reviewing what we have learned previously this year). Meanwhile, during our literacy block, we have been learning more about the writing process and how we take our ideas and turn them into a polished piece of writing. Before the holiday's, we were focusing on adding description to our writing. Our focus now is on sentence starters and varied transition words between sentences. In science, we have been reviewing what we know about hearing and sound. We will soon be looking at various instruments and applying our knowledge of hearing and sound to how these instruments work. 

We have also been busy preparing for our assembly next week!

Updates/reminders:
- If you still have report card envelopes at home, please return them.
- Home reading books should be brought back to school each day so that they can be exchanged if need be.
- Tomorrow is a full day but Friday and Monday school is not in session!
- Conferences will be held tomorrow after school and Friday morning - please reserve your spot online. 
- The book fair is in the library until Friday! We will not have anymore class time to go and look for books but you may accompany your child after school to take a look. See the image below for time specifics. 
- The grade three team will be hosting the assembly next Friday (February 2nd) at 8:30am. All parents are welcome to attend! Not all of the students have a speaking role but they have all contributed in some way.

Good evening! I hope everyone is doing well. To discover what we have been learning this week, ask your child all or a few of the following questions: What is sound? How do we hear? Where did the time go?!  We had a busy week at Ken Taylor School in preparation for the holiday season but it was a success! Our class did a great job today performing their Hot Chocolate dance during the assembly which was followed by a wonderful morning filled with acts of kindness. The grade 3 team delivered thank you cards for the entire school staff, helped out with organizational tasks around the school, and distributed homemade compliment presents to one another.   We also recently tweeted out a smile on Twitter that we hope to spread to all parts of the world. Hello everyone! We have been hard at work in our classroom from constructing instruments, practicing multiplication, discussing cultural differences, and practicing writing with transition words to help our ideas flow together. Here's a sneak peek from the past few days... Valentine's Day! Just a quick reminder, students are welcome, but not required, to bring in valentines for their peers tomorrow but please ensure that they include everyone in the class to avoid hurt feelings. See the blog post from Friday for a class list. Students are also welcome to bring in a special snack to eat in the afternoon while we read a story. Due to allergies, we will not be sharing any food.
