Friday

Good evening!

I hope everyone is doing well.

We started off 2018 in our classroom with a full week of learning! Some of our time was spent reviewing concepts that we touched on before the break but, later in the week, we were introduced to some new ideas.

To find out what we have been learning, you may ask:
- What is growth mindset?
- What does it mean to be a global citizen?
- What different types of sentences are there?

We have also been learning how to subtract when there is regrouping involved. This can be a tricky concept but we are starting to get the hang of it! We learned this week that when we challenge ourselves, our brains become stronger as we are able to make new connections. The most common errors in subtraction with regrouping arise from incorrect regrouping, incorrect mental math, and subtracting from the bottom instead of the top when regrouping is needed. See the image below for the strategies that we have reviewed! We have also had practice with the traditional subtraction algorithm. Extra practice with these strategies is always helpful!

Reminders:
- Student-Led conferences will be held on January 25th and 26th - I look forward to meeting everyone!
- Popcorn Day - January 17th and 18th
- Fun Lunch - January 19th
