Wednesday
Our second full week in the classroom together has been off to a busy and productive start! In math this week, we have been reviewing various addition strategies and are warming up to adding three digit numbers with answers up to 1000. In science, we have been wrapping up our unit on rocks and minerals. Today, we were excited to observe how our crystals had grown over the past few days. In social studies, we are learning about what we can do to help protect our world, leading up to Universal Children’s Day on November 20th. Meanwhile, during our literacy block, we have been practicing how to build stamina during our Daily 5 time which we have spent working on writing or reading. We have also been learning about descriptive language and how to write complete sentences.
Just a reminder - home reading books should go home each night and come back each day. Students may not always be ready to exchange their book, but remembering to bring the books back and forth is a good habit to get into. While reading, it is important to pay attention to decoding skills, fluency, and comprehension. All of these skills are equally as important in becoming a skillful reader. We have been working on picking good fit books in class using the I PICK strategy!
